Introduction to Jobs (2010 Season)
Welcome to the Sea Lions! If you are
"old hat" at swim team then you will already know how important "the
jobs" are. If you are a new swim family it will quickly become apparent
that it takes a village to run a swim meet. There are no "paid" timers,
shepherds, etc.
A swim meet is a remarkable accomplishment, done by the
parents for our kids to showcase how hard they work every day for
months. We all must take our "jobs" seriously and always keep in mind
that without us, the meet doesn't happen.
On April 25th
we will have In-Person Job Sign Ups. More information about this will follow soon.
Each family will be required to sign up for a specific number of jobs in addition to back up jobs so that we are completely covered in the event of a "no show." If you are unavailable on April 25th, arrangements can be made to sign up for jobs after that date, but be aware that the "better" jobs will be taken sooner.
The absolute deadline for obtaining your jobs will be May 15th. After that date you will be assigned jobs and they will be your responsibility. We will make every effort to contact you to choose your jobs before that date.
There are a few changes to jobs this year:
- We will have a "Shepherd Coordinator" and a "Timer Coordinator" along with 2 poolside "back-up" timers, on split shift, on each side of the pool (previously called "Head timers").
- Split shifts for timers will continue. We will have two shifts, one for each half of the meet. There will be
no relief timers. Each shift will count as one job.
- Lane Slip collection will be reinstated.
Please make yourself familiar with the
job descriptions before signing up for jobs. Be sure your family can do them, so keep in mind your childcare issues. Many jobs are not compatible with small children in tow. Also, be familiar with meet start times and job start times to be sure you can be there on time. For instance Wednesday home meet start times are 5pm, most jobs need to be there 15 minutes or more before the meet start time.
As in previous seasons, there will be a $100 fine for not doing your assigned job. This fine will need to be paid before your swimmer can swim in the next meet. If you are not on time for your job the fine will go into effect.
Job trades are your responsibility.
It's going to be a great swim season! Go Sea
Lions!
